Carry the Can donations from The Normandy Centre, Horsham, are donated to the Horsham Matters Food Bank.
The latest batch, totalling 19kg, was handed over on Wednesday 29th July by our representative Andrew Farmer.
Horsham Matters has a permanent food bank at their site in Redkiln Close and organises several mobile food banks around the borough.
Fundraising and Marketing Manager, Rob Blaker, explained how people in financial crisis can apply to the food bank for emergency assistance. They are given a picking list based on their family size, and can browse the shelves to shop for food to last them 1 week.
Horsham Matters also helps with families in housing difficulties and those recovering from homelessness.
Their warehouse takes donations of pre-owned furniture, clothes and toys which can be given to families in need or sold to raise money at their shop in West Street or online at shop.horsham-matters.org.uk
Rob also explained that they act as an intermediary with Social and Health Services when someone may have underlying long term challenges which lead to them becoming reliant on the food bank, rather than for emergency one-off assistance.
Rob thanked Sussex Freemasons for their donations. You really do help those in the direst need by bringing just one item every time you visit the centre.
The bank is a little depleted at the moment, so please remember to pick up a can of beans for Carry the Can as well as a bottle of plonk as a raffle prize next time you’re going to a meeting.
