The North Group management team are really excited to announce the introduction of a new initiative to support people in our local communities who are struggling to make ends meet. The plan is to launch this initiative across the North Group centres from the beginning of April 2026.
In reality, this initiative is not so “new”, as it has been running successfully in other Provinces, but is something we think is simple to do and will make a big difference to the lives of others.
In essence, the objective is to ask every Brother in a Lodge and/or Masonic Centre in the North Group to bring a can of some foodstuff to each meeting. These will be placed in a collection box in each centre in the North Group area.
On a regular basis, monthly initially, these boxes will be collected and delivered to a Food Bank or homeless centre local to that masonic centre by a nominated person in each centre.
Food banks primarily need non-perishable food items, including tinned meat/fish, fruit, pasta, rice, vegetables, soups, and long-life milk/juice. Please ensure that whatever you bring is in date.
At the same time, it would seem appropriate to link the Hygiene Bank initiative that was launched a year or so ago to this initiative. For this they require toiletries (shower gel, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorants), sanitary products, nappies, toilet roll, and basic cleaning supplies like laundry detergents and washing up liquid, etc.
This a very simple initiative that for very little cost and effort on behalf of our Brethren, we can make a significant difference to people struggling with the cost of living.
